Our Approach
Finding a therapist who you feed safe and comfortable with is perhaps the most important factor in successful outcomes.
Counseling Associates of Metropolitan Washington use different treatment approaches – depending on your needs – and may include one or a combination of the following:
- Psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on increasing your awareness of unconscious thoughts and behaviors, developing new insights into your motivations, and resolving conflicts to live a happier life.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you identify unhealthy, unrealistic or negative beliefs or behaviors and replace them with healthy, positive ones.
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy whose primary objective is to teach behavioral skills to help you tolerate stress, regulate your emotions and improve your relationships with others.
- Family therapy acknowledges that what affects one member of the family often affects all the members of a family. Family therapy helps families or individuals within a family understand and improve the way family members interact with each other and resolve conflicts.
- Marriage counseling, also called couples therapy, gives partners — married or not — the tools to communicate better, negotiate differences, problem solve and even argue in a healthier way.
- Mind-Body health/Wellness/Mindfulness teaches strategies that can help you reduce stress and anxiety and help you cope with challenging situations.
